When Fortnite: Battle Royale burst on the Multiplayer FPS Battle Royale scene it was regarded as a game that would attract a lot of players for a few days only because it is free-to-play and that it will quickly fade away.
But it turns out that unlike PlayerUnknown and Bluehole, Epic are hard at work and determined to deliver a quality product to their already loyal player base. The latest update for Fortnite: Battle Royale is packed with changes and improvements to gameplay, cosmetics and performance on all platforms:
Leaderboars
Players will be able to level-up characters and rank up against other players in 3 categories (solo/duo/squad).
Division leaderboard
A division is a group of 50 active players competing against each other to see who will take top the spot. You are automatically assigned to a new division each week. There are separate divisions for all match types (Solo, Duos and Squads).
Friends leaderboard
Selecting “friends only” while in leaderboard will only display friends so it makes it easier to get bragging rights. Once a season is complete players will be able to unlock rewards based on their rank.
Item Shop & Locker
With the addition of the item shop players will be able to change their character’s appearance by acquiring skins and cosmetics for their gear and body armors. Another customizable item is going to be the player banner. All changes will be made while in the Locker.
Controls
When it comes to performance Epic have greatly reduced input latency on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and as a result of that controls should be more responsive on both consoles.
An option to toggle targeting has been added.
Players now have the option to press their “Target” button once to enter and leave the targeting state, and will no longer need to hold down if toggle targeting is enabled.
The new “Combat Pro” controller config is aimed at keeping the user’s thumbs on the sticks as much as possible so they can make fast weapon swaps and build quickly.
This patch has also re-enabled 30 FPS on PS4 and PS4 Pro to maintain a smooth experience.
Trees and foliage will no longer cause very low frame rates when Material Quality is set to anything lower than High.
Implemented profile guided optimization to help overall CPU performance on consoles.
Improved thread affinities on console to help overall CPU performance.
Improved animation system performance.
Reduced hitching issues on all platforms.
Fixed grainy visual artifacts on trees with certain graphics configurations.
New item added – Slurp Juice
Slurp Juice is a regen potion that raises your health and shield by one for 25. Slurp Juice can take a player to 100 health. Players will be able to stack 2 potions.
